BMW Polo 2011 Australia VS South Africa

A very cold and windy rainy day - we found ourselves up at the International Polo game up in Shongweni. It is usually a great day out, but unfortunately the weather just did not keep up its end of the deal!

None the less, fun was had by all... and surprisingly Marc and I found ourselves in the paper the week later :)

Just a few snaps from the day out!

Shot from the local area paper the next day (not the best shot done on my cellphone )

Orchid Update: Triple L

MY need for green is growing. Today I decided to pop on to my local nursery to get a new pot for our front door area for my beautiful cycad. Well this is always a problem for me, as I left with pot, 4 teeny tiny cacti to add to my forest and as I was leaving the lady sneakily pointed out a bonsai'ed mini Orchid. well oh well. That was the end of me! Done! Sold! Add to the cart :)

I named her Triple L - after Lyns, my sister, whos  initials are LLL. She is such a sweety and has 3 buds still to bloom! She is not even taller then a DVD case.

Yes I know, even I think I may be getting old if these are my pleasures on a saturday afternoon. BUT, hey I love the finer things in life :)

A quick update on the Orchids we had at the wedding. They have remained gorgeous. almost 2.5 months now! But this week they have slowly started to drop their beautiful flowers. Soon I will have to let them rest until they bloom again! They have really brought me great pleasure.

This is triple L next to the wedding Orchids to show how tiny she is!!
Happy weekend all!

Scott and Laura joined us from Jozi!

But it is only half way through the weekend, as we are off to the International Polo game tomorrow... hoping to try out my camera again.....

2 Months!

Wow – it has been 2 months already. And this morning I can remember the exact feelings I woke up with on the morning of the wedding! It was such a gorgeous day!

Thought I would tell you guys about my something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

I truthfully had not thought about it AT ALL in the build up to the wedding. But Lyns, my sister started the ball rolling on the morning of the wedding.

Whilst my hair was being done, she came and sat with me and asked me to wear her sapphire and diamond ring. I always wear a Sapphire ring on my right hand that I had made as a replacement to my gran’s engagement ring (which was stolen a week or so after it was given to me). So Lyns popped this one off and replaced it with her band on my right finger. This was now my something blue.

Next my wonderful young Aunt, Bev, came in and gave me something old – a small hand held antique mirror. A really lovely gesture and I kept it in my bag for the evening and used it to keep my lips topped up with lip gloss during the Reception supper. I now keep it safely tucked in my handbag.

Something borrowed was my moms earrings. We were debating whether I should wear her HUGE diamond earrings, or go for a classic look of her pearls. WE decided on the pearls, as it would match the bodice of my dress a little better.

And finally the something new – would have to be my gorgeous wedding dress. Now I know we are all biased and love our dresses. But this was a special gift from Mom that we bought in a really awesome boutique shop in Cape Town. Mom, Lyns and I were in the shop that day and it was really the experience one expects from buying a dress. I had tried on sooo many before that day. My First appointment ever was with a MAJOR hangover (which is not recommmendned to anyone). But other appointments mom and I were just so disappointed with the service/ quality of dresses or the help received. Anyway, and so I came to have my dress! My something new!

Until next time.....

Orchids

Orchids 08/07/2011

Whilst I may be going a little out of order here, I had to do this blog post about my love for Orchids.

I had not a green finger in my body, that was until we lived in our huge 1 bed flat! Whilst there is lots of place in our flat, out outside area is reduced to a tiny walk way balcony that I have now totally over grown with bonsais (more detail on that later!)

But also what I have needed and craved is greenery in our living space so I have tried to get the Orchid thing going. Right now I have just lost one to due to watering inside the leave area and ultimately rotting the plant to death (don’t know if the plant can recover but I am living in hope). Bonsais I seem to have mastered but not my gorgeous Orchids. And then I have 4 gorgeous ones from our wedding. Total 6 Orchids (and about 12 Bonsais).

I decided that not being a frilly flowery person I wanted to have a gorgeous bouquet for the wedding, and I just loved it BUT rather then have centrepieces, I decided to buy Orchids and vases for our centrepieces – keeping it simple yet elegant. Quite a few we gave away to close family but I managed to keep a couple which look pretty happy at present, but I still have lots of time to figure out the art of Orchid survival. The main table had 7 Orchids in a large silver champagne holder that mom now has on her dining room table. They were just amazing on the evening and will always be special every time I see them at moms!

On our honeymoon in Phuket, in all the tourist books and things to do they constantly referred to this Orchid farm that is an attraction and has been running for 30 years. After eventually convincing Marc that I HAVE to go to this place we stopped by. Wow oh wow! I got lost in the maze or Orchids. I swear there are Millions of the things here! Most interestingly is I did not see one species that looks like the White single stem ones we used at the wedding. But there was a multitude of other colours and shapes... I just loved it!

Needless to say I took an incredible amount of photos, so below are some of my pics (you will also notice I am becoming so much better with my fancy new camera). Also what was so interesting is that no matter where you look/drive/walk there are orchids growing on every surface imaginable in Thailand. The climate is perfect! I just could not believe that everyone had not 1 or 2 but many hanging in their shops or homes. They even just grew on the sides of the hills! Another thing that makes Thailand just so beautiful.

Any tips for me on how to look after them properly?? Or successful Orchid owners tips?

All things WEDDING!

I thought about starting this blog during the build up to the wedding, and am glad that I chose not to. It could possibly have turned into a very boring account of what every bride goes through in the build up, and possibly not been the choice of many friends or blog readers. I must say I found most of my colours/decor and ideas on Wedding blogs, but these ladies have done such wonderful jobs, I just am glad that I chose to wait a little.

Over the last couple of months I had mentioned a couple of times I would like to begin a blog. I am an avid reader of many blogs now (especially my overseas mates and find it a great way to keep up to date with their lives). Not quite sure of my "theme" or intention of starting one... it was a good friend of mine who eventually helped me find my thoughts and what I would start to chat about. My number one goal for the blog is primarily to be a memory bank for my personal terrible memory. Those that know me well will know what I mean when I say - I just have a terrible memory, and sometimes find the only way I do "jog" it every now and then is through seeing photos.

As Lyns, my sister is now flying her way around the world, this will be for those friends and family who are interested in our lives and the goings on but are too far for a quick phone call and detailed accounts of our trips..... and lastly it will also be fun to get some tips on good resturants, great experiences we have had on our journeys, and those MUST see spots. Marc and I tend not to do the usual "touristy" thing when we are out and about, so this might just be a good place for you to see what we really do when we are away (eat and drink would probably be the main priority :) )

So that brings me to "DESTINATIONS OF THE DESPLACES". Marc and I love traveling (as i am sure very many if not everyone I know would say the same.) We also enjoy live sporting events, concerts and generally any event happening in town or the greater RSA that we can go and enjoy and experience.

So.. this blog is going to be about just that, and also a visual experience of some of the cool pics we have taken on our journeys. I recently got an awesome bridge camera  (baby steps to a full blown SLR) and have started to enjoy taking photo's and trying to explore the creative side of my brain which I believe needs some work!

The wedding and all photos and such will be on a seperate tab on the top of this page, which I will also keep updating until I am totally up to date with all the pictures and fun times I can add there.

Happy reading to you all, and please feel free to leave comments and help me on my journey and writing... and yes, please point out those spelling errors... I need to improve on that front!

Blogging on Blogger....

Well, with only a few blog posts to my name, I have decided to create a new blog on Blogger. Many of the blogs I read are on here, and I find it is easier having a profile too, so that I am able to comment on other blogs and also easier for people to follow me!

Let me know what you think in the mean time, especially for my far away mates! Weebly was great for the wedding invite, RSVP's, Comments and the like. But as a blogging tool i find it slightly frustrating with the limited ways of uploading photos....

I will be transfering the content from my old blog accross here in due coarse. But in the mean time, could I have your thoughts and comments on using Blogger to blog?? :)
